My boyfriend frequents a website called The Art of Manliness, which is very interesting! Its kind of like bringing back the old ways of manliness into our fast paced society. There is one article we read about inexpensive dates and small things the man can do for his girl. Corwin got inspired to do one and make it his own. So one day, I came home to find a beautiful square lined basket filled with all my favorite candies and ORGANIC popcorn with two movie tickets with a cute note saying "Naomi, will you please go to the movies with me?" So cute and thoughtful and attentive to all the small details!
Now that's manly!

Craft Day
I have one more week of break before classes start again. I have been wanting to have a craft day all summer long! Here are a few things I made today.
This is a change bag that my boyfriend and I are collecting change in. The word "vise" means dreams in Romanian. We bought the burlap bag from The Container Store and wanted to add a little something special to personalize it.
This obviously was an altoids tin. My boyfriend and I are also, into reusing things and since this is a perfectly good box, no sense in buying a new one. Corwin has recently gotten into the old fashioned shaving with safety razors and he wanted a box to store his razors. I painted this cut out applique to paste on top.
I was given a small black square canvas years ago that came with a few metallic paints. So today I made Corwin his very first painting. Since the colors were so mystical I knew it should be a sort of eerie and fantasy like scene. I definitely wanted to keep some of the black showing through since a black canvas is kind of rare. I also painted the argile pattern on the sides and a Romanian poem on the bottom. I hadn't painted in a long time, so this was fun to do.
I did this still life one day this Summer while my mom and I were teaching art camp. I used mostly colored pencils and a few conte pencils. I hope I can continue to make time to do things I enjoy!

Exciting things
Autumn is awesome and it brings so many fun festivities! One of them was Corwin's Birthday on October 28th! It was a blast! Here are the cupcakes I made him and his friends. When I was in Dallas, at Swoozies (the coolest stationary and gift/party store) I saw this robot cupcake set and I then decided that's what I'll bake for his day. We had a fantastic time!
Corwin loves Halloween and I just like celebrating anything, so it works out nicely. Two kids from my class came to school with haunted Gingerbread houses and I really had the urge to do one also. So, we picked up a kit and we had a lot of fun with it!
Here's a nighttime shot of the front of the house
And here's a daytime shot of the back. We take pics at different times, because thats how we roll.
Overall the festivities were all a blast! Now on to November....

My summer
Since it's still September and still 100 degrees it's not too late to give a photo and caption recap of a few mobile photos. All in all it was an amazing unforgettable summer. Being unemployed wasn't as bad as I thought.

Art camp for two weeks was a blast! And good money too!

I had the opportunity to go to two art museums. The DMA and Norton Art Gallery in my own town.

Can't forget FIREWORKS on the fourth! Some of my favorite things!

Beautiful nature all around me on a daily basis. Created by the Master Artist.

The Gates set. Yep, I kept busy with being an Extra for the TV show.

Homemade pizzas on gluten free crust and other yummy healthful ingredients.

Me being in the hospital for the first time.

My AWESOME birthday celebration with Corwin. 54 candles and Sparkling grape juice!
I've got so much to be grateful for!

gifts given
As you may or may not know, I recently made the decision to move to Shreveport from Ruston, since my Masters program is offered at an off campus location in a larger city. I decided to do this for a number of reasons. A few are that I wouldn't have had work in Ruston for the summer, plus I'd rather live in a bigger city. I did this without having a job lined up in Shreveport. I left my best friend and the chance to teach her daughter in Preschool next year, and upon two weeks prior to me moving I met a wonderful new companion with whom I very much enjoy spending endless amounts of time. (who also lives in Ruston, and will be there starting September) My number one goal since I've been in Shreveport has been to find work. Everyone who has experienced job hunting knows that it can be very exhausting, hard to stay motivated, and even depressing. I was actually blessed to have had numerous options from which to choose! In the midst of choosing between two places of work, I get a phone call from the Director of the Montessori School of Shreveport, with whom I met a few weeks past but she didn't know if she had a full time position. Well, she does!! And its pretty much more than I could have asked for! I wanted to work with children, aside from my love for them, the schedule and hours works well with my schooling. And she really appreciates my education and values it, so I'm compensated for it! I couldn't be more thrilled and thankful. I have had lots of support and prayers from the people around me, and for that I'm grateful. I know good things don't happen alone. This is just one of the many gifts that are manifested in my daily life!
